Citrus County Awarded Triple Crown Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. (Oct. 20, 2026) — The Citrus County Clerk’s Office and Citrus County Government have been awarded their fifth Triple Crown Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for Fiscal Year 2024. The Triple Crown Award recognizes governments that receive three awards in the same fiscal year: the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award, and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

As the Comptroller for Citrus County, the Clerk is responsible for the accounting functions of Citrus County Government. These functions include financial reporting, recording financial transactions, receiving revenues, paying vendors and employees, investing surplus monies, and debt administration. The Clerk’s Finance Department follows the best practices for financial reporting set forth by the GFOA to ensure excellence in financial reporting and public transparency of Citrus County tax dollars.

The County Department of Management and Budget is responsible for preparation of the Citrus County Annual Operating Budget and Five-Year Capital Improvement Program in conjunction with the County Administrator. These documents are prepared and implemented in accordance with Board policy, Truth in Millage (TRIM) requirements, and the Florida Statutes.

Citrus County is one of only 376 government entities in the nation to receive this prestigious award for the 2024 Fiscal Year.

“This award reflects the dedication and efforts of county staff to maintain integrity and transparency of the budgeting process” said County Administrator Steve Howard. “I applaud Team Citrus and the great partnership we have between the county and the Clerk’s Office.”

“Earning a Triple Crown Award is evidence of the dedicated stewardship and partnership between the County and our office,” said Traci Perry, Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller. “We are proud to be able to provide our community with the highest standard of financial reports on our local tax dollars.”

The GFOA is an independent professional association, whose best practice guidelines are considered the hallmark in public finance. Founded in 1906, the association represents more than 20,000 government and public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada.
